Mark Starks of Midland made motion picture history in 2025 when his environmental documentary, "Glaciers: Nature's Resilient Water Towers," became the first film to achieve a simultaneous United Nations global launch and immediate preservation by the Academy Film Archive within the same cycle. Timed to align with the United Nations International Year of Glaciers' Preservation, the groundbreaking film bypassed traditional waiting periods when the Academy recognized it as an essential historical document of the climate crisis. Solidifying its enduring legacy, the documentary was subsequently licensed by Sage Video for streaming access across thousands of universities worldwide. His legacy includes "Martian & Me," spanning the 50 years evolution of his comic book superhero. The film accounts for 70 of his more than 225 film awards and selections worldwide.
